In the summer of 2001, then Philadelphia Police Commissioner Timoney formed the Philadelphia Police Boat Team in order to compete in the World Dragon Boat Championship, which was being hosted in Philadelphia on the Schuylkill River.

During the last 20 years, the Philadelphia Police Boat Team has been competing nationwide and internationally in both Dragon Boat and Outrigger Canoe races, promoting camaraderie among not only law enforcement officers and Firefighters but also within the boating community.    Our members come from all walks of life who are Firefighters, Police Officers, Federal Probation Officers, and Special Agents from State and Federal law enforcement agencies.  The Philadelphia Police Boat Teams has a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization status.
